Thoughts on Rally for Recovery and Recoverydate.com September 13, 2009
Posted by community in : Online, Recovery, Worldwide , comments closedOne our contributors, here at Aglobalrecovery.com, recently shared their thoughts about a recovery event they attended yesterday in Miami, Fl, as part of National Recovery Month. Enjoy…
“Hey, fellow recoveries at A Global. Yesterday, I attended the South Florida Rally for recovery as part of National Recovery Month, and it was awesome. The day began with a walk around the beautiful and famous MacArthur Causeway. There were probably 5,000 people in attendance (just guessing – but seriously – a lot).
We then cam back to the Bi-centennial Park grounds were we had some great food. There is nothing like a delicious meal after working up an appetite. I met some new friends in recovery while listening to guest speakers, and that was cool.
Before the concert, I came across a booth for a new website called Recoverydate.com. I had to find out more. Initially, I thought that it seemed like a bad idea, because I remembered how my sponsor told me that people in recovery shouldn’t date for at least a year; however, I now have two years in recovery and don’t remember anything ever being mentioned again.
Basically, I’m single, and I signed up for free because after talking to the person at the booth, I realized that Recoverydate.com offers me something other dating sites can’t – a chance at having a sober relationship with someone that shares my ideals.
I’ve had horror stories before, so it made sense to give it a shot. The idea that I could meet someone and have so much in common, and hit off right away seemed like a realistic possibly I thought worth exploring.
Anyway, after that I checked out the show and they were sweeeet! Richie played Pink and all his best stuff. And later, the Animals killed it with House of the Rising Sun. In the end, it was a fun day. I met lots of cool people, got turned onto Recoverydate.com and supported the local recovery community and National recovery Month with my participation…Hope to see you there next year!
Anonymous Jay”
Thanks for the insightful reflections AJ…
IntheRooms.com Goes Live with New Recovery Time Facebook App June 29, 2009

Starting today, Intherooms.com will now have a Facebook app available for any user looking to personalize their Facebook profile with their recovery time. The ITR Facebook app will display the member’s recovery time for friends to see. It will also show the combined recovery time of the 50,000+ IntheRooms members, which now totals over 100,000 years.
Another feature is that any friend of the ITR/Facbook member who has the app will be able to join the free recovery community anonymously through their friends Facebook page. Addiction can carry a big stigma making getting help more diffucult, but the hope is that the app will reach out and encourage people out there that need help but are still hesitant.
For those unfamiliar with ITR (intheroom.coom), it is one of the premiere recovery communities on the web. Like Facebook, ITR is also a social networking site; however, its focus is recovery. The goal of IntheRooms.com can be summed up with its mantra, which is the word H.I.T.C.H. and stands for Help, Inform, Touch, Connect and Heal. At ITR, anyone can join for free and connect with tens of thousands of other members, across fellowship lines, who are also in recovery.

To be specific, there are exactly 37 videos currently, which range from an NBC 6 interview with the founders of In the Rooms, Kenny Pomerance and Ron Tannenbuam, to several videos that feature Father Martin.
For those unfamiliar with Father Joseph Martin, he was an ordained priest based out of Baltimore Maryland, who was an alcoholic that made a full recovery and spent the rest of his life advocating animatedly for the Alcoholics and Narcotic Anonymous fellowships. Unfortunately, Father Joseph Martin passed away earlier this year (2009). He is most famous for his “Chalk Board” talks that helped champion addiction recovery for so many individuals who sought to overcome the disease of addiction.

Recovery Nation Helps Couples Coping with Sex and Porn Addiction April 22, 2009

The online self-help resource, Recovery Nation, recently announced its newly launched, web-based initiative, called Couple’s Workshop, to help couples cope and move forward through problems stemming from sex and porn addictions. Jon Marsh, founder of Recovery Nation, describes the Couple’s Workshop by saying, “This workshop is for those couples who have already made the decision to heal their partnership–be that as friends, parents, or lovers.”
Couple’s Workshop utilizes similar health-based recovery techniques found in traditional addiction recovery programs and partner’s healing workshops. More so, Recovery Nation’s new sex and porn addiction, recovery program also looks to rebuild a healthy sexual life with a partner beyond addiction management. It does so by providing over forty free lessons that guide couple’s in the development of partnership communication skills as well as trust and intimacy rebuilding.
While some may feel “shock, fear, confusion, disgust and ignorance” about their sexual addiction problem as mentioned on the Recovery Nation website, which tends to act negatively in “guiding the recovery response as well,” the site also mentions that the provided resource of the Couple’s Workshop will “assist you, your partner and/or anyone seeking to fully understand the sex, love and porn addictions in such a way as to facilitate a permanent recovery and/or healing process.” For more information, visit the website at: http://www.recoverynation.com
What Does the in the Rooms Logo Mean? April 18, 2009
Posted by inrecovery in : Online, Recovery, United States , add a comment
For those of you unfamiliar with the In the Rooms logo, it is the image of a tree with 12 different colored leaves on it; but, what exactly does it represent? After reading a recent newsletter, I found out that the logo symbolizes the 12 steps traditions, and the spiritual premises maintained as part of the lifestyle philosophy. In the Rooms added that “When we were originally developing our logo, we decided to go with the tree as it is a symbol of strength, growth and life. Just as with a tree, we believe that if we nurture and care for our community, it will grow and prosper.”
In the Rooms is a new social networking site that is specifically designed for addicts in recovery within the rehabilitation community. Within In the Rooms, members are able to utilize cutting edge technology to meet other like-minded people, upload photos, post videos, create blogs, and most importantly, share their experience, strength and hope about recovery. Among the many members is the musician, Richie Supa, who wrote a song especially for In the Rooms. To date, the website’s mantra has been the word H.I.T.C.H. which stands for Help, Inform, Touch, Connect and Heal; the site has said the acronym helps sum up their mission.

NoSlang.com Has Your Drug Slang Translator February 12, 2009
Posted by inrecovery in : Online , add a comment
NoSlang.com, a top Internet slang resource, just announced NoSlang Drugs – a drug slang translator. The translator (located at http://www.noslang.com/drugs) combines government drug term lists with user submitted terms to provide a comprehensive dictionary of all drug related terms. NoSlang has been praised by parents as a life saver when it comes to understanding what their kids are talking about on the Internet.
“It just seemed like the next logical step,” said site creator Ryan Jones, “NoSlang gets several hundred user submissions each week, and while reviewing them I noticed that many dealt with drug terms. Up until now I simply deleted them because they didn’t fit the overall theme. Then it hit me: Why not offer a drug dictionary as well?”
The new drug site is ideal for parents, teachers, coaches, law enforcement officers, and concerned teens. Jones, who was recently featured in a CNET article about Internet slang, said he plans to offer top 10 lists, quizzes, and articles geared toward parents in the near future.
These additional offerings are similar to the features already offered on the Internet slang version of NoSlang.com. Jones has also published a print version of his internet slang dictionary, but says no plans are in the works for a drug book at this time.
